Very Special Seeds of Inspiration

If you’ve been following my posts recently, you’ll know that I’m in full swing production of the Seeds of Inspiration which I hope will be used as desktop/carry-along muses during National Novel Writing Month. They’ll be up for sale in my Etsy shop on September 26th, but I’ve made a few as gifts for friends which don’t necessarily fit the general design of the Seeds.

Firstly, I made a Dragon Seed for a friend just to see if I could pull it off. While it may look like a bizarre tadpole, it is in fact a fearsome dragon which I’m pretty sure could carry off a small cat by the time it’s fully grown.

The next was a gift for a friend’s birthday. She said she wanted something fairy taley and maybe princessy, so I made her a fairy tale princess! Meet Camilla and her little metal wings.

And finally there’s the little chicken! She looks kinda funny because I didn’t want to give her a beak, but gave her a little comb so she’d more obviously be a chicken. Not sure about the result. My friend seemed to like her though so I call that success!

There they are! Some very special Seeds. So if you have a favorite animal, plant, character, or pretty much anything else just let me know! I love experimenting and I love commissions. Hit me up!

Seeds of Inspiration in Prep for NaNoWriMo

I had a lovely afternoon of bright sunlight and no work or school yesterday so I took the opportunity to photograph the Seeds of Inspiration! Since I’ve already announced that they’ll be up for sale on September 26th, I’d now like to tempt you with some hopefully tempting pictures.

In case you can’t tell, these two sets are matching earrings and necklace pendants! That way you can take your muses everywhere you go!

Whether you’re planning to participate in National Novel Writing Month or fighting a bout of artist’s block, these little muses are sure to be just the kick in the pants your creativity needs! Keep an eye on the Tiny Octopus Designs Facebook page for more pictures and updates on the Seeds and swing by my Etsy shop whenever you get the chance.

Lots of love,

Seeds of Inspiration Release Date!

Posted on

I’m pleased to announce that I have decided to release my new line, Seeds of Inspiration, on September 26th in honor of the release of JK Rowling’s new book A Casual Vacancy which comes out on the 27th. I couldn’t help myself. I am nothing if not a nerd. These Seeds are intended to be little desktop muses during National Novel Writing Month and beyond so hopefully the proximity of the release dates will imbue the Seeds with a little extra spark.

Seeds of Inspiration

Posted on

After a long, lazy summer of being a newlywed, I’ve finally gotten back on the art horse and started a new line of sculptures in preparation for the upcoming noveling season of NaNoWriMo. As a participant, I know that during November I like to have a little trinket or totem of some sort to keep with me when I write. One year it was a necklace. One year it was a little resin pumpkin. This year I thought I’d make myself something to cheer me up and cheer me on while I make my crazy sprint towards 50,000 words.

What I came up with were the Seeds of Inspiration! I made myself two, Peanut and Perry, and decided it would be fun to make an entire line of them to sell for NaNo. They won’t be released in my shop for a few weeks until I’ve built up my stock, but I wanted to let you know they’re on their way!

So here are a few little preview pictures!

Keep an eye out for the upcoming release of my line of Seeds of Inspiration on Facebook and Etsy!

Pinterest Finds of the Day: Nail Polish, Bottle Stoppers, and a New Life for Old Vases

Posted on

I’ve been in a crafty mood lately and for lack of motivation to actually do anything about it, I have been browsing Pinterest all day and loving it! There are so many creative people on that site with so many fun DIY projects I just couldn’t help but share some of my favorites today. While I haven’t done any of these yet, I definitely plan to in the future.

Pin 1: DIY Nail Polish

Simply pick a favorite color of eye shadow or blush, add to clear nail polish, shake, and enjoy! If you can’t find a color you really like you can always mix a few together until you reach your perfect tint! I know I’m excited to try this one.

Pin 2: Animal Bottle Stoppers

This pin just cracks me up. There’s something perfectly goofy about half a little plastic animal sticking out the top of a nice wine bottle. And it looks pretty easy! Just pop into your local dollar store and grab a bag of these little fellas, buy some reusable corks and securely affix the rear end of the animal to the top. Make sure the animal is on there good and permanent so it doesn’t pull off when you’re trying to open said wine bottle.

Pin 3: Faux Porcelain

Faux porcelain seems to be surging in popularity recently and I can see why! Do you have an old, ugly vase or even some junky old plastic toys needing a new life? All you need is some white glossy spray paint from your local hardware store and you’re set! Just look at how elegant that rhino looks. I know want some sweet porcelain animals to decorate my house with. They’re the prefect fun and fancy accent piece for any living space.

Those are my top 3 favorite pins for this week! Check back in a day or so and I’m sure there will be plenty more!

Happy crafting!

Leonard the Catbird in Polymer Clay

Posted on

After making my first catbird, Midge, I realized that it was something I really enjoyed making so I decided to make another one! Leonard is the second in hopefully a long line of catbirds and I wanted to try something a little different with him. I made his plumage much more detailed and busy than his predecessor and the colors I chose ended up making him look a little like a velvet painting. Do you know what I mean?

Anyway, I want to do a different look for each catbird from now on so keep an eye out!
