Pinterest: Fall Craft DIYs

As usual, I’ve been hopelessly addicted to Pinterest and finding all kinds of fun things. Most recently my interest has turned to Fall themed craft and decorating ideas and I wanted to share a few with you!

1. An Elegant Leafy Wreath

I love the style of this wreath from the way it drapes at the bottom to the lovely Autumn colors in the leaves. It’s a nice prelude to the evergreen wreaths that are just around the corner.

2. Beautiful Blue Felted Acorns

I am completely in love with these. I’ve been meaning to get into felting for a while now, but I think this pin might just be the persuasion I need to finally start. They’d make great earrings, necklaces, and simply stand alone decorations! Might be a sweet idea to make a handful and gift them to a friend in a little mason jar or something.

3. Colorful Felt Leaves

These look simple to make, yet very cute and colorful and perfect for seasonal decorations! I believe these were originally intended to be used as coasters, but they’d also look great on headbands or on a necklace if they were smaller.

Pinterest Finds of the Day: Nail Polish, Bottle Stoppers, and a New Life for Old Vases

Posted on

I’ve been in a crafty mood lately and for lack of motivation to actually do anything about it, I have been browsing Pinterest all day and loving it! There are so many creative people on that site with so many fun DIY projects I just couldn’t help but share some of my favorites today. While I haven’t done any of these yet, I definitely plan to in the future.

Pin 1: DIY Nail Polish

Simply pick a favorite color of eye shadow or blush, add to clear nail polish, shake, and enjoy! If you can’t find a color you really like you can always mix a few together until you reach your perfect tint! I know I’m excited to try this one.

Pin 2: Animal Bottle Stoppers

This pin just cracks me up. There’s something perfectly goofy about half a little plastic animal sticking out the top of a nice wine bottle. And it looks pretty easy! Just pop into your local dollar store and grab a bag of these little fellas, buy some reusable corks and securely affix the rear end of the animal to the top. Make sure the animal is on there good and permanent so it doesn’t pull off when you’re trying to open said wine bottle.

Pin 3: Faux Porcelain

Faux porcelain seems to be surging in popularity recently and I can see why! Do you have an old, ugly vase or even some junky old plastic toys needing a new life? All you need is some white glossy spray paint from your local hardware store and you’re set! Just look at how elegant that rhino looks. I know want some sweet porcelain animals to decorate my house with. They’re the prefect fun and fancy accent piece for any living space.

Those are my top 3 favorite pins for this week! Check back in a day or so and I’m sure there will be plenty more!

Happy crafting!

Planning my Wedding!

Posted on

As of tomorrow I have exactly three months until I marry the man of my dreams! Leading up to the big day, I am becoming more and more susceptible to wedding websites, blogs, and pinboards on Pinterest. I’m the kind of girl who’s been planning my wedding since I knew what a wedding was and now that we’re mere months away I just can’t contain myself! I have to make a blog post about it!

First of all, I am beyond ecstatic to say that I’m going to be wearing the wedding dress my Granny wore 57 years ago! My mother wore it too and now it’s my turn. It looks like a ball gown he truly magical part is that it fits perfectly with no modifications necessary! Pictured below is my Granny wearing the dress. I plan to have a photograph taken in the same pose.

My shoes are mind numbingly expensive for shoes (for me at least), but since I don’t have to pay hundreds for a dress, I figured I could splurge! I haven’t ordered them yet, but I’ll be getting the At Tiffany’s shoes from Hey Lady. Their prices are high, but their quality is exceptional!

The theme of the wedding is going to be old fashioned/traditional/vintage to match the dress. I’m still collecting all of the bits and pieces for myself, but I’d like to give you a little taste of my wedding to come in the form of snapshots from my wedding pinboard!

Love the frames. I plan on having vintage picture frames on all of the tables to present the table names at the reception so tying them in to group pictures like this. Very fun.

I’m a big sucker for strung lights and candles. Our wedding and reception are going to be vintage themed, but my dad and I have been talking about a potential after reception party back at our house. I live in the country so we’ve got a sort of country/farm vibe going on and I’m considering lighting the night with candles in mason jars strewn on tables and hung from trees. There might even be a blue grass band playing at it!

Since the wedding’s going to be in June I figure sparklers could be a fun, seasonal touch. Plus they remind me of being young at the farm in North Carolina.

I’ll be talking to my florist over Spring Break next week about flower plans, but I’m still wishy washy on exactly how I want my bouquet to look. I love the color scheme of this one, but I’m also partial to white anemones.

As for wedding favors, we’ll be getting a bunch of pretty little tins with windows and collecting a bunch of family recipes to print on 3×5 note cards.  That way they’ll be personal and thoughtful while still affordable.

I wish I could pin everything from my wedding pinboard, but it would take up so much space! Anyway, if you’re interested in checking out the rest of my wedding pins, click here!

Pinterest is the new love of my life

I don’t know about you, but I can’t get past just how much fun Pinterest is. I get in these crafty moods every now and then when I’m too lazy to actually make anything, so I hop on Pinterest and find a bunch of projects I want to do later on! It’s amazing the kind of stuff you can find on that site. Anyway, I got into another Pinteresty mood last night and made a board for all of my Tiny Octopus Designs creations. I’m hoping they’ll get some movement around the site, but so far only one of my friends has liked them all. Ah well. It’s my newest advertising experiment so I’ll see how it goes!

My Pinterest handle is “Spider in the Wine” because it was the name of a book I was planning to write and have yet to actually get started on. I have a board for “Upcycle and DIY” and a board called “For Eating” that’s packed with wonderful looking recipes. I also have a wedding board, because how could I resist? And I have a few other on Disney, clothing, and house related stuff. Then of course there’s my Tiny Octopus Designs board that I’ll update as regularly as I can!

So check out my Pinterest and drop me a comment if you have one too so I can see what you’ve pinned too!

And because I hate to publish a post without a picture, here is a little teaser from one of my boards:

P.S. This is how I do my makeup now. 🙂 I think this woman is gorgeous.
